During the E3 2016 event, Microsoft announced two upcoming game consoles: one being the Xbox One S that was released already and another game console that will be released next year.
That next game console is dubbed as the “Project Scorpio” but to avoid confusion, I will just refer to it as Xbox Scorpio for simplicity and brevity.
Anyway, a lot of people were surprised that as early as the E3 2016 event that the company decided to reveal its plans for their next big game console.
Apparently, they have a pretty good reason why they revealed their plans for the Xbox Scorpio sooner rather than later.
According to Aaron Greenberg, head of the Xbox One’s Marketing department, they aim the Xbox Scorpio to be one of the best game consoles come next year by giving it way better specs than the competition.
We’re talking about a game console that can run 4K games without a hitch. We all know that the Xbox One S supports 4K resolution but that is only if you’re watching media from the game console.
The Xbox Scorpio is different because it will be equipped with a 6 Teraflop GPU; probably the first in the market when the Xbox Scorpio will be released.
Greenberg added that the announcement of the Xbox Scorpio was planned because they want to work in tandem with their developers and third-party gaming companies so that they can work closely with them to deliver what is arguably the best gaming experience possible; all delivered by a game console.
Also, Greenberg said that they had to announce it sooner rather than later so that everyone who wants to chime in on the game console will have plenty of time to create new games for the said platform.
And lastly, Greenberg said that they might be able to communicate with Sony about cross-platform play. Just imagine an FPS shooting game where the Xbox players will be pooled with the Playstation players as well. That would be great for the community at large!
Now, 4K gaming is actually not a new thing. In fact, it has been a popular topic when it comes to PC gaming. There are a lot of graphics cards nowadays that can support 4K gaming, but not all of them will be able to run any game with 60FPS with all of the game’s settings cranked up.
It would be interesting to see how the Xbox Scorpio will perform because it does come with a beefy graphics card.
If they are able to pull this off, Microsoft will probably win the best game console of 2017. Aside from 4K gaming, they also have to incorporate VR gaming to the platform as well so that players will truly be enticed to get one.
But, do remember that with these specs, the Xbox Scorpio might be priced higher; way higher than the current Xbox One and Xbox One S.
Also, Greenberg said that for you to truly enjoy the upcoming Xbox Scorpio, you need to have a 4K TV as well.
Xbox Scorpio will be released sometime in the Holidays of 2017.
